This session is about the Passive House as a concept for settlements and neighborhoods. Its potential for climate protection and resilience will be presented and its user-friendliness will be illustrated by success stories of implemented projects. In particular, requirements related to historic preservation and renewable energy supply will be addressed in this context.

Passive Houses in 100 climate protection settlements in the sustainable energy state of North Rhine-Westphalia Besides energy-related requirements, urban planning and architecture play an equally important role in the 100 Climate Protection Settlements project. 53 estates have already been completed. Once all the climate protection estates have been completed, 25,000 people will be leading climate-friendly lives in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Richard-van-de-Loo-Straße climate protection settlement in Kleve Certified eco-home housing development of North Rhine-Westphalia. The housing development uses a community heating system. The choice of material underpins the approach of a consistent solution and maintains a sophisticated architectural design. The landscaping design combines private gardens with attractive, shared outdoor spaces. |

Preservation order and Passive House: retrofitting the Art Nouveau Otto-Wagner-Areal district in Vienna EnerPHit Plus refurbishment of listed buildings is achievable based on available building and building services technology. The feasibility analysis shows that comprehensive energy efficiency and supply with renewable energies are not in conflict with the preservation of historical monuments.
